39/365 Snowy Landscapes

One considerable difference I have noticed between shooting raw vs. jpeg is the detail in the sky.  Usually if I shoot jpeg, the clouds and sky get lost and there will barely be any detail in the clouds, if you can even see the clouds.  For that reason, I shot raw today (and the second one as well since the shot with the barn was the scene when you turn 180 degrees).  Although, it takes me forever to edit shooting raw b/c when I import them to LR the colors are so washed out, so I have been editing with my camera in one hand to study the LCD.

On a similar note, I took a low light photo of D today and when I look at my LCD I am happy with the exposure.  But, when I imported to LR it looks way underexposed.  Not only that, but it doesn't look nearly as warm as my LCD. (And I checked my LCD and it is set on the middle brightness setting).  So, I am wondering if it's my laptop calibration.

  1. Yeah that is interesting about the colors on your screen vs the colors on your monitor....hmmm.....your photos are gorgeous. The colors in the sky, and that bright red barn are so vibrant. I haven't tried shooting RAW yet....I may need to try this out now....

  2. Awesome! The first one looks like a painting and I love how the red pops out in the second. Like winter postcards. I love shooting RAW, but I agree it can get so time consuming to edit.
